Blackbird Valley Western Pleasure Horse Trekking
We offer farm rides of one to four hours on local working farms, over gently rolling hills, along country roads or, depending on the season, in the local forestry. All rides feature stunning views of the surrounding countryside, Mount Arthur, the Western Ranges and Tasman Bay.
We cater to all levels of experience in personalised small groups of up to five riders. Basic safety and riding instruction starts each ride. You will ride in comfortable, secure, all leather Western saddles, and safety helmets are provided. We suggest long pants for riding, a windbreaker or sweatshirt is good to have for the breezy tops, and sturdy footwear with a heel is a must.
If you need a relaxing break from your daily routine, but don't have a lot of time, try an outing with a few friends for a relaxing experience with our quiet horses. Find out why horse riding is known the world 'round as a therapeutic release from your busy life.
Used to have a horse of your own as a kid and thinking about it again? One-to-one lessons in basic safe horsemanship are available for the adult returning to riding. We will get you safely back in the saddle and disclose all those realities of horse ownership that your parents took care of or helped you through last time
"Evening Star Ranch", home of Blackbird Valley Western Pleasure Horse Trekking, is a 40-hectare (100 acre) grazing block. We raise Boer cross meat goats, fatten cattle and are breeding our own replacement horses. Our horses are a mixed lot from registered Appaloosas, Standardbreds, Clydesdales and Thoroughbred/Clydesdale crosses to just hacks. Non riders are welcome to sit in our ever-evolving garden to wait for the riders' return, do a farm/bush walk or visit some of the local crafts people or vineyards.
Open year round, bookings essential
